A Let Down

Katelyn loves to go to the library with Deed. The new Peoria library opened on Saturday and she was quite excited to find out that unlike at the Dunlap library there is not an age requirement for a library card. You just have to have your parent with you to get one. We went after school today. I needed to renew my card and then she was going to get one. I warned her that she might not be able to bring it home because of my recollection of the crazy process that the Peoria library uses. They have your card right there and then give you a temporary one and you have to come back and get the official version. How do you explain that one to a 4 year old? While I was working on the paper work she was picking out books. She ended up picking out five and after a really sad face when she got her green temporary card we went to check out. The lady at the check out then informed us that with a temporary card you can only check out one book. So now she had to four books on mommy's card. Not exactly what she was hoping for. But a good way to show her that the government and publicly funded organizations don't work effectively...or think for that matter. It would be awful to give a library card to someone from outside the city limits of Peoria!!
